Welcome to Robin Hood’s Bay

Welcome to Robin Hood’s Bay Class. We are a mix of Year 3 and Year 4 children. Mr Smith is our Teacher, with Mrs Murray, Mrs Fenton and Mrs Brewster as our Teaching Assisstants . On Tuesday's, Mrs Jones takes the class when Mr Smith has PPA time.

Please keep up to date by following your child on Class Dojo where important information will be shared when necessary. Photos of some of the children's experiences throughout the year will also be posted weekly.

PE

Our PE days for Autumn term are Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure your child brings the appropriate, labelled school PE kit. We will send PE kits home at the end of each half term.

Maths

In maths we will be following 'White Rose Maths' topics of work and will use a mixture of White Rose resources as well as teacher created resources to ensure that there is comprehensive coverage of the Year 3 and Year 4 curriculums. In each topic area, children will have lots of opportunities to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills.

In June 2023, the Year 4 children will take part in the governments 'Multiplication Tables Check.' To prepare for this please ensure your child is logging into TT Rockstars regularly at home. In class there will be lots of opportunity for times table (and related division facts) practise for all children.

Reading

In Robin Hood’s Bay Class, reading is at the core of what we do.

Each day during the week the children will have the opportunity for ‘15 minutes of reading’, this is where they can choose any book or text from the class library to read for pleasure. This year sees the introduction of reading diaries, these will be used to track reading at home. Children will take a book from the class library and swap it when they have finished.

Additionally, every day in class, children will read a text together during 'Whole Class Reading'. This important time is always adult led. Children will read small sections to practise reading aloud and develop confidence. They will then answer comprehension questions to develop their reading skills further.

Beach Schools

This year St Martin’s School are excited to be fully launching their Beach Schools programme. This will see every class, including Robin Hood’s Bay, visit the beach at least once per half term.

Children in Year 3, 4 and 5 will also work towards a ‘Coastal Citizens’ award which will see them explore what being part of a seaside community is all about, with links being made to local businesses and taking part in activities that are unique to the seaside.

Peat Rigg

Year 4 children will also get the opportunity to visit Peat Rigg in the Spring Term for a week of fun outdoors taking part in activities such as canoeing, caving, zip wires and abseiling. It will test them, but they will also have so much fun and learn a lot about themselves in the process.
