Welcome to Ravenscar

Welcome to Ravenscar which is made up of 24 year 2 children. Mrs Lambert is our teacher Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Garton teaches on Thursdays and Fridays. Mrs Jones is our TA who works Monday to Thursday mornings, and we also have Miss Nicholson and Mrs Wegrzynkiewicz.

Please keep up to date by following your child on Class Dojo where important information will be shared regularly. Photos of some of the children's experiences throughout the year will also be posted weekly. It’s so lovely to see your comments on there.

Our PE days for Spring term are Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child brings the appropriate, labelled school PE kit. We will send PE kits home at the end of each half term.

Reading

We love reading in Ravenscar and have a really wide range of texts available. When we get the chance, we enjoy reading books on our own and to each other. Some children will continue to take part in Reading Practise sessions using the Big Cat Little Wandle books, some children who have achieved 60 words per minute fluency will move onto accessing Whole Class Reading where they will answer a range of comprehension questions.

The children will vote for our Class Novel at the beginning of term and this will be read each day before Hometime: This half term the children have voted for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.

To help with reading, we use Little Wandle as our phonics scheme which is a comprehensive programme that identifies any ‘gaps’ in knowledge and ensures children become fluent readers and can access the curriculum as a whole. Some children who have completed the code will move on to accessing Spelling Shed which will help them to secure a range of strategies for spelling unfamiliar words and teach them a range of Spelling Rules.

Maths

In maths we will be following 'White Rose Maths' topics of work and will use a mixture of White Rose resources as well as teacher created resources to ensure that there is comprehensive coverage of the curriculum with a mixture of practical and written work. In each topic area, children will have lots of opportunities to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills.
